Iraq Body Count (IBC) is an analytical project, not a news portal. Our procedure is to collect and reconcile every available, distinct report about each incident. For larger events, stories may run into the dozens and continue to emerge for days or weeks. This, and the inexorable rise in daily violent incidents, means that there is a considerable gap between the initial reporting of events and their first appearance in the IBC database.

However, we obtain an early impression of events within about 48 hours of first reports. This page provides our news gatherer's account of such recent events, but please keep in mind that these are not our final database entries. Rather, they should be considered an early update on civilian casualties.

Wednesday 19 July: 31 killed

Mosul: 17 bodies of men executed by security forces found; 8 killed by IEDs; 1 shot.

Baghdad: 1 killed by IED; 1 body found.

Maysan: 2 killed in clashes in different areas.

Shirqat: 1 executed.

Tuesday 18 July: 11 killed

Mosul: 5 children's bodies found under rubble; 1 man killed during clashes.

Dubiz: 5 shot, including village mayor and members of his family.

Monday 17 July : 19 killed

Mosul: 7 members of a family (mother, father and 5 children) blown up by IED as they emerged from hiding.

Baghdad: 5 members of a family (mother, father and 3 children) shot dead at their home by unknown gunmen; 2 shot dead in other incidents in Nahrawan and Tarmiya.

Tal Afar: 2 women's bodies found shot.

Karbala: 1 man tortured to death by police.

Balad Ruz: 1 shot by Shia militia.

Qayyarah: 1 policeman killed in clashes.

Sunday 16 July: 9 killed.

Mosul: 2 bodies of Yazidi women found under rubble.

Baghdad: 4 die in IED explosions in eastern and western areas, including popular markets.

Jalawla: 3, a mother and her sons, abducted and killed.

Saturday 15 July: 14 killed.

Tal Afar: 12 executed for trying to flee the city.
Baghdad: 2 killed by car bomb and IED in the northeast.

Friday 14 July: 23 killed

Baghdad: 18 bodies found across the capital in the last three days; 1 policeman killed by IED targeting a police patrol.

Shirqat: 2 children killed by IED as they play.

Hit: 1 by IED at water pump.

Madain: 1 woman's body found stabbed.

Thursday 13 July: 14 killed

Bartalla Camp: 10 women and children die of dehydration at detention camp for families of ISIS fighters.

Baghdad: 1 man killed by IED; 1 body found in the north.

Abu Saida: 1 young man found shot dead.

Mosul: 1 policeman killed by suicide bombers.
