Iraq Body Count (IBC) is an analytical project, not a news portal. Our procedure is to collect and reconcile every available, distinct report about each incident. For larger events, stories may run into the dozens and continue to emerge for days or weeks. This, and the inexorable rise in daily violent incidents, means that there is a considerable gap between the initial reporting of events and their first appearance in the IBC database.

However, we obtain an early impression of events within about 48 hours of first reports. This page provides our news gatherer's account of such recent events, but please keep in mind that these are not our final database entries. Rather, they should be considered an early update on civilian casualties.

Wednesday 12 July: 47 killed

Iskandariya: 20 bodies of Sunni men who had been abducted found.

Mosul: 10 executed for fleeing the city; 9 bodies of men, women and children found under the rubble of bombed buildings.

Hawija: 4 killed by IED as they try to flee the city.

Imam Gharbi: 1 policeman is killed during clashes.

Baghdad: 1 man is killed by an AED attached to his car in Nahrawan.

Hamam Al-Alil: 2, a baby and an elderly man, die of thirst and malnutrition at a camp for the displaced, south of Mosul.

Tuesday 11 July: 21 killed

Mosul: the bodies of 12 people, including children, found under rubble, after heavy shelling by IS forces; 3 al-Hashd al-Shaabi fighters executed in front of their families.
Anbar: 5 IS fighters executed for desertion.
Khalis: 1 killed by IED.

Monday 10 July : 61 killed

Hawija: 32 executed; 6 family members killed by IED.
Mutaibija: 5 executed.
Tal Afar: 9 executed.
Baghdad: 1 by IED; 2 bodies.
Latifiya: 3 executed.
Shirqat: 3 by mortars.

Sunday 9 July: 60 killed.

Tal Afar: 47 executed; 2 killed by gunfire.
