Iraq Body Count (IBC) is an analytical project, not a news portal. Our procedure is to collect and reconcile every available, distinct report about each incident. For larger events, stories may run into the dozens and continue to emerge for days or weeks. This, and the inexorable rise in daily violent incidents, means that there is a considerable gap between the initial reporting of events and their first appearance in the IBC database.

However, we obtain an early impression of events within about 48 hours of first reports. This page provides our news gatherer's account of such recent events, but please keep in mind that these are not our final database entries. Rather, they should be considered an early update on civilian casualties.

Wednesday 5 June: 2 killed.

Hawija: 2 farmers killed in IED explosion.

Tuesday 4 June: 4 killed

Sinjar: 1 Yazidi farmer killed by Turkish forces.

Al-Madham: 2 farmers killed in landmine explosion.

Baghdad: 1 cleric killed in Kadhimiya.

Monday 3 June: 2 killed

Saqlawiyah: 2 bodies found. They were husband and wife.

Saturday 1 June: 15 killed

Khirbet Tal Tiba, Mosul: 2 killed by gunmen.

Abu Saida: 3 family members (father son and another relative) killed by gunmen.

Anbar desert: 9 bodies found. The 'truffle pickers' had been abducted.

Nahr al-Maleh: 1 body found; the body was that of a lawyer who had been abducted.


The remains of 27 policemen were found buried in a mass grave; the grave dates from June 2014.

Friday 31 May: 1 killed

Baghdad: 1 man killed by gunmen in Abu Ghraib.

MAY: 166 CIVILIANS KILLED.

Thursday 30 May: 12 killed

Abu Sidon: 5 killed in IED explosions.

Kirkuk: 5 killed in IED explosions.

Basra: 1 woman killed by gunmen.

Daquq: 1 killed during clashes with IS.

Wednesday 29 May: 2 killed.

Baghdad: 1 man killed by gunmen in Radwaniya.

Abu Saida: 1 policeman killed by gunmen.
