Iraq Body Count (IBC) is an analytical project, not a news portal. Our procedure is to collect and reconcile every available, distinct report about each incident. For larger events, stories may run into the dozens and continue to emerge for days or weeks. This, and the inexorable rise in daily violent incidents, means that there is a considerable gap between the initial reporting of events and their first appearance in the IBC database.

However, we obtain an early impression of events within about 48 hours of first reports. This page provides our news gatherer's account of such recent events, but please keep in mind that these are not our final database entries. Rather, they should be considered an early update on civilian casualties.

Rashidiya, north of Baghdad: 1 body found dumped in a square with gunshot wounds in head and chest

Monday 16 October: 12 killed

Shatt al-Taji, north of Baghdad: 1 body of a man pulled from Tigris river with gunshot wounds to head and chest

Kirkuk province: 9 civilians killed and up to 60 injured in fighting between Iraqi government and Kurdish forces

Ras Avenue, Old Mosul: 2 killed and 3 children wounded by roadside bomb

Sunday 15 October: 4 killed

Nahrawan, southeast of Baghdad: 1 killed, up to 7 wounded, by roadside bomb near shops

Badush, northwest of Mosul: 2 policeman killed, another wounded by roadside bomb

Muthanna bridge area, east of Mosul: 1 government employee's body found dumped by roadside, with bullet wounds and signs of torture

Saturday 14 October: 5 killed

Sabaa al-Bour, north Baghdad: 1 shot dead by gunmen on a motorcycle as he left his home

Ayadhiyah district in Tal Afar: 4, including 1 policeman and three civilians, by bomb attack targeting local police during the distribution of food aid

Friday 13 October: 24 killed

North of Baghdad: 1 body of a man found shot in the chest and with signs of torture, dumped by roadside near orchards

Southwest of Diwaniyah: 1 forty-one-year-old woman killed handling grenade found in her house

Al-'azeer area, south of Maysan: 1 wounded man in an ambulance stopped by gunmen

Eastern Mosul: 1 shepherd killed by explosive remnants of war with ISIS

Al-Qaim, west Anbar: 20 by coalition airstrikes in the area of Hasayba market

Thursday 12 October: 2 killed

Falahat, north of Baghdad: 1 killed immediately by IED fitted under vehicle

East Mosul: 1 killed in his house by explosive remnants from ISIS

Wednesday 11 October: 14 killed

Southwest of Baghdad: 1 killed, 4 wounded by roadside bomb near shops

Hit, west Anbar: 12 killed, including a university professor, 17 wounded, by suicide bomber inside a cafe

Hit, west Anbar: 1 thirteen-year-old boy, described as a second suicide attacker "close to" the first (above), shot and killed by security forces
