Iraq Body Count (IBC) is an analytical project, not a news portal. Our procedure is to collect and reconcile every available, distinct report about each incident. For larger events, stories may run into the dozens and continue to emerge for days or weeks. This, and the inexorable rise in daily violent incidents, means that there is a considerable gap between the initial reporting of events and their first appearance in the IBC database.

However, we obtain an early impression of events within about 48 hours of first reports. This page provides our news gatherer's account of such recent events, but please keep in mind that these are not our final database entries. Rather, they should be considered an early update on civilian casualties.

Thursday 7 March: 14 killed

Salman (Muthanna): 13 bodies found buried in a mass grave.

Baquba: 1 policeman killed by sniper in Yousef al-Hillan.

Wednesday 6 March: 14 killed.

Mosul: 9 bodies recovered from rubble. The dead are all members of a family and include one child.

Fallujah: 1 body found.

Ramadi: 1 man killed by IED.

Muqdadiya: 1 policeman killed by IED.

Baghdad: 1 killed by gunmen in Nahrawan;
1 body found in Radwaniya.

Tuesday 5 March: 3 killed

Baghdad: 1 killed by gunmen in Bob Sham;
1 body found in Dora.

Mosul: 1 body found in al Hadar.

Monday 4 March: 2 killed

Baghdad: 1 killed by gunmen in Taji.

Diwaniya: 1 body found.

Sunday 3 March: 3 killed

Mosul: 2 killed by car bomb.

Baquba: 1 farmer killed by gunmen.

Saturday 2 March: 1 killed

Kirkuk: 1 man killed.

Friday 1 March: 5 killed

Al-Rutba: 5 men found executed; the men had been abducted 10 days earlier.
