Iraq Body Count (IBC) is an analytical project, not a news portal. Our procedure is to collect and reconcile every available, distinct report about each incident. For larger events, stories may run into the dozens and continue to emerge for days or weeks. This, and the inexorable rise in daily violent incidents, means that there is a considerable gap between the initial reporting of events and their first appearance in the IBC database.

However, we obtain an early impression of events within about 48 hours of first reports. This page provides our news gatherer's account of such recent events, but please keep in mind that these are not our final database entries. Rather, they should be considered an early update on civilian casualties.

Saturday 4 November: 17 killed

Mosul: 3 children playing in the garden killed by IED in al-Qubba; 1 municipal worker in mine explosion.

Baghdad: 1 policeman by IED in Abu Ghraib; 1 Interior Ministry employee by AED under his car in Zaidan.

Multaqa, north of Kirkuk: 5 bodies found.

Mamah, Dibs: 1 killed in IED explosion.

Nahr al-Imam: 2, a taxi driver and his cousin, killed by IED placed on the side of the road.

Taji: 1 body found in Tigris river with gunshot wounds.

Alaath: 1 body of teenager found with gunshot wounds.

Madain: 1 Ministry of Oil employee killed by AED under his car.

Friday 3 November: 7 killed

Udhaim: 3 policemen killed in mortar attack.

Baghdad: 1 by IED in Radwaniya.

Barwanah: 2 brothers killed in armed attack in their home.

Kirkuk: 1 body found.

Thursday 2 November: 16 killed

Baghdad: 1 killed by IED in Rashidiya.

Mosul: 3 policemen by IED in Albu Saif.

Abu Saida: 1 farmer shot leaving his house.

Latifiya: 1 Sahwa member killed by AED under his car.

Rawa: 8 killed by government and militia shelling that destroys civilian houses.

Qaim: 2 IS members burnt to death for desertion.

Wednesday 1 November: 62 killed

Mosul: 1 killed by car bomb in Rashidiya; 9 by IEDs in Al-Thawra and Tammuz, including two children; 2 in armed attack in al-Sukkar.

Qaim: 45 reported killed in coalition raids.

Sulaimaniya: 2 killed in armed attack.

Baghdad: 2 bodies found with gunshot wounds; 1 Ministry of Justice employee shot dead in Ghazaliya.

Tuesday 31 October: 17 killed

Goum Balagh village, north of Sulaimaniya: 2 killed, 2 wounded in armed attack

Central al-Rutba district, Anbar: 3 members of one family killed by booby-trapped bomb while trying to repair their home

Amara, central Maysan province: 1 woman in there thirties shot in a market by gunmen

Zubair, Basra province: 1 body of a man aged 25-30 found with signs of beating

Al-Thawra, western Mosul: 7 member displaced family by explosion of their house

Tammul, west of Mosul: 2 displaced residents by another booby-trapped house explosion

Monday 30 October: 9 killed

Hafta Ghaz village in Daquq: 1 Kurdish cameraman and local head teacher stabbed in his home, in front of his family, by attackers describing themselves as members of Hashd al-Shaabi militia

Diyala bridge, southeast of Baghdad: 1 by gunmen as he was leaving his home

Road between Safwan and Zubair, west Basra governorate: 1 body of a young man with knife wounds

Central Diwaniyah: 1 man shot outside his home

South of Mosul: 3 killed, 1 wounded by roadside bomb

Tilkaif, north of Mosul: 2 unidentified bodies found, shot and tortured

Sunday 29 October: 44 killed

Northeast of Baghdad: 1 unidentified body found dumped by orchards, with gunshot wounds to the chest

Nahrawan southeast of Baghdad: 1 worker killed, 2 wounded by explosive device placed near brick factories

Kherbtalah area in central Basra city: 1 body found in front of Shifa hospital of an unidentified woman in her twenties, shot "in various parts of the body"

Tarmiyah,north of Baghdad: 1 Popular Mobilisation Unit member by bomb attached to his car

Mosul: 40 bodies of people of Indian nationality found in a mass grave near a prison in territory that was held by ISIS, presumed to be of persons missing since 2014
